Our animal friends held a Thanksgiving potlock, and invited  Paws 2 Read guests from Central PA Humane Society: find all the animals and their potlock donations in our children’s room for a prize!

THE FINE PRINT: we ask that children only do one scavenger hunt per month. Scavenger hunts can be completed any time we are open: Monday-Thursday from 1-8 PM and Saturday from 9 AM-2 PM.

In response to the SNAP benefits freeze, we started a mini-food pantry in the vestibule of the main library entrance: please help yourself to anything during library hours. Donations of non-perishable food items are welcome.

Our Christmas Bazaar is here: anytime we are open, you can shop a variety of vintage and gently used Christmas items: decorations, kitchen items, and more! New items added weekly. Drop off donations for the bazaar anytime we are open.

Don’t be a turkey: come to Club Lego! Kids ages 5 and up are invited to join us for an evening of Lego freestyling on Thursday, November 6th and Thursday, November 20th from 6-8 PM on both dates. No sign ups are needed, but we ask that a grown-up stay in the library while children build.

We all need to master the knowledge and skills to make smart financial choices and prepare for whatever the future brings. Thinking Money for Kids, an initiative of the American Library Association (ALA) and the FINRA Investor Education Foundation, strives to teach children and their parents, caregivers and educators about financial topics — like saving, spending, sharing and budgeting — in a way that is both meaningful and fun.

Thanks to this initiative, you can teach your kids the basics of financial literacy the fun way via a family gaming event via app style games on playaway devices every Saturday in November from noon-2 PM. There is no session on Saturday, November 29th, when the library is closed for the Thanksgiving holiday.

These games are suitable for children ages 3-12.

Local author Vickie Harbula visits the library a special Family Fun Night Author Visit featuring her series of children’s books the Adventures of Vader & Pip. Vader & Pip are a pair of shihpoos who have adventures and make new friends everywhere they go. Rumor has it the real Vader & Pip might make a guest appearance during this program!

The Friends of the Bellwood-Antis Public Library meet at the library on Thursday, November 20th at 2 PM. Library Friends help the library with fundraisers and other projects dedicated to making the library a better place for everyone. New members are always welcome!

The Chapters & Chat Book Club meets at the library on Monday, November 24th at 6 PM to discuss Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte. New members are always welcome!

The Friends of the Bellwood-Antis Public Library are holding a fundraiser at the Altoona Valley Dairy Restaurant (2724 Plank Rd) on Tuesday, November 25th. Pick up a flyer at the library, and when you present it while dining at the Valley Dairy Restaurant anytime between 10 AM and 6 PM on the 25th, 20% of your bill will be donated back to the library.

This fundraiser is only at the Altoona Valley Dairy Restaurant, and you must have a flyer for the library to receive the donation. Flyers are available at the checkout desk.

The Bellwood-Antis Community Trust meets at the Bellwood-Antis Public Library on Wednesday, November 12th at 6:30 PM.

Hot drinks, hot dogs, cool times! We’ll be serving up snacks during the Craft Show at Myers Elementary (220 Martin St) on Saturday, December 6th from 9 AM-3 PM. All proceeds benefit the library.

We present a PAWS to Read session on Saturday, December 13th from 10:30-11:30 AM. Kids will meet and read to an adoptable cat friend from the Central PA Humane Society. Reading to animals is an ideal way for children who may struggle with reading to build skills while hanging out with a non-judgmental animal friend.

This program is for children ages 5 and up: we ask that a parent or caregiver stay with their child during the program.

Teachers, parents, homeschoolers, and anyone else who wants to read to children or help children read: we are happy to put together themed collections of books you can take home or use in the classroom! Your wish list of books can be as general as “I need books on snowflakes” or you can request specific titles by using our online catalog at https://bellwood-antis.sparkpa.org/. Give us 2-4 weeks in advance, and we can also order your books from libraries in Blair, Bedford, Cambria, Huntingdon, and Lackawanna Counties. To get started, talk to a librarian, or e-mail your requests to bellwoodantispubliclibrary@gmail.com.

The library’s ongoing costume jewelry sale is your one stop shop for affordable bling! We have vintage pieces, signed pieces, and as-is odds and ends ideal for crafters. All jewelry is for sale for a freewill donation. Shop anytime the library is open: 1-8 PM Monday-Thursday and Saturdays from 9 AM-2 PM. Donations of used and new costume jewelry for this ongoing fundraiser are appreciated. Drop off donations anytime the library is open.
